CourseGraphic Discover how to paint like the Masters based on fundamentals in traditional drawing and color mixing. Review the basic techniques of shading, shadows, and perspective. Learn traditional glazing techniques to add depth to your paintings. All skill levels are welcome and previous students may use the class as studio time. Practice exercises are offered in experimental paintings, plus learning different techniques with the palette knife. Recommended prerequisites are Classical Drawing and Color Theory Workshop. Estimated cost of art supplies is $90.

Please read:  MATERIALS LIST for Acrylics Painting: Please buy the minimum art supplies until you want to invest more money. 3 canvas boards 8" x 10" or 9" x 12". Paint brushes (acrylics only- flat white) - small #4, medium #8, and large #10. Acrylics paints - titanium white, cadmium red med, cadmium red light, alizarin crimson (optional), cadmium yellow med or light, ultramarine blue, burnt umber (optional), Mars Black, or purchase a small kit which has most of the above-mentioned colors (for beginners: white, brown, red, blue, and yellow). Fluid Matte Medium - small bottle, this is what we use instead of water to mix the colors with. Also, one each: medium size glass jar, ruler, pencil, color wheel (optional), table-top easel (optional). These supplies are generally available at Michael's (CDA or Spokane), Spokane Art Supply (1303 N Monroe St, Spokane Wa 509-327-6622 - ask for student discount of 10%), Creative Element in CDA, Fred Meyer, and Walmart.
